Inland Pacific Ballet's The Little Mermaid

One Mom's review

April 3, 2019

" was given two tickets to see The Little Mermaid Ballet at the Fox Theater in Riverside. I took my mom and my 3 year old daughter, since we are both obsessed with The Little Mermaid.
Because I was told I needed a third ticket for my daughter, I went to the Will Call window and purchased one. The child’s ticket was $60. I was shocked at the price. And after seeing the ballet, I felt the cost of the ticket for my 3 year old was grossly overpriced.
The scenery and backdrops were beautiful. The costumes and the dancers were gorgeous. The ballet was easy to follow, since I know the story, but was difficult for my 3 year old to follow.
The dancer that played The Little Mermaid, had brown hair, not the signature red hair of the typical Little Mermaid. My 3 year old was a bit disappointed that the main character didn’t resemble her beloved Ariel.
The story was well laid out and done in ample time.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon with my family and I’m glad I was able to mark seeing a ballet off of my list and really liked the backdrops and dancers. "

Inland Pacific Ballet returns this spring with their spectacular landmark production of The Little Mermaid, complete with magnificent sets (even a Live Shipwreck and amazing Aerial Technology!), elaborate costumes and a cast of delightful undersea creatures. Based on the original Hans Christian Anderson tale with new original updates and a sound collage featuring great classical composers, The Little Mermaid ballet is appropriate for all ages, bringing this colorfully classic to life.

Set under and above the high seas, The Little Mermaid tells the story of a mermaid princess. Her father's kingdom was more beautiful than can be imagined; yet every night, The Little Mermaid dreamed of the world at the surface. Her father, the Sea King, would allow his daughters to visit the surface on their fifteenth birthday. Being the youngest of six princesses, The Little Mermaid never tired of listening to the stories of her older sisters. When at last, her own fifteenth birthday came, The Little Mermaid could hardly wait for the festivities to end. Once she had her father’s blessing, she rose up through the sea like a water-bubble, and so her adventures begin.

Inland Pacific Ballet’s spectacular landmark production boasts magnificent sets (even a live shipwreck!), a cast of delightful sea creatures, ornate costumes, puppetry, and beautiful dance to create a magical ocean world with a cast of delightful undersea creatures which are a feast for the eyes. A sweeping sound collage of music from great composers such as Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams bring the story of the Little Mermaid to life in this enchanting undersea adventure. Innovative aerial technology and a surprise ending awaits as the Little Mermaid’s adventures come to life. Based on the original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul.
